In plain words
Eating fills the stomach, but looking does not fill the stomach! What must you do for the food on the plate to reach the stomach? You must put the hand and the mouth to work. Only then does what is on the plate reach the stomach. In the same way, Swami is handing you this Ānanda. You are merely placing it on the plate called the heart. But you must try to eat it, experiencing it with the Buddhi. Only then will you be able to understand its Ānanda, its strength, its power and capacity. Students! The senses are merely meant to be under our control. We must ever be master over them. But unfortunately you are becoming slaves to the senses.
Bow your head to no one but God
‘I must become the servant of servants; I must do service to Your servants,’ said a poet. The senses must become servants of servants to us. But how dangerous it is for you to become a servant to the senses! Great danger comes of it. You must not listen to the word of a Slave. Kaikeyī was a very dear queen to King Daśaratha. She was a great queen. The daughter of the king of Kashmir. King Daśaratha's wife. For all she was, because she trusted the word of her maid Mantharā, what became of her name? Does any woman take the name ‘Kaika’? Does anyone take the name ‘Mantharā’? Mantharā is the one who speaks evil. Kaika is the one who listens to evil. So no one takes these bad names. In the same way, our senses are our slaves. We must bring them under our control and tell them to sit quiet. If they come wanting anything, we must say, ‘shut up, sit down.’ We must be ready to give them that kind of training. Such a one alone is a hero, steadfast and deep. He alone is the true master. You must become such a master; you must not become slaves to the senses. To whom are you a servant? Do not bow your head to anyone but God. You yourself are God! You yourself are God! Try to develop this faith little by little.
