In plain words
A son named Virocana was born to him. In this way we must enquire well into this principle of character, with its spiritual inner meanings. This character belongs to God alone, because God is the embodiment of selflessness. This Paramātma is not one who looks for any purpose. God alone is without self-interest and selfish aims, but everyone in the world has self-interest and selfish aims. A mother loves her child because of her blood. The father loves because he is related by the body. God has no relationship. Heart to heart, love to love. He is not one who looks for any self-interest at all. To such a God alone we must be offered. Bali Cakravarti went on proclaiming such true and eternal teachings in those days. ‘Mātṛdevo bhava, pitṛdevo bhava, ācāryadevo bhava, atithidevo bhava’. How far did they take it? Mother, father, guru. With the evil intent of sending Rāmacandra, who was dear to her, to the forest and having the coronation done for her, Kaikeyī brought suffering on Rāmacandra. So Bharata said, ‘I will not even look at my mother's face.’ Is a mother who drove God away a mother? No.
For God, one may give up anything
If, in the matter of God, she takes a path against Him, you may renounce even your mother. Then the father, Hiraṇyakaśipu, tormented his son Prahlāda constantly in many ways and kept telling him not to remember Nārāyaṇa's name. Then Prahlāda said, ‘I will give up even my father, but I will not give up Nārāyaṇa.’ Prahlāda renounced his father and remembered God. Bali Cakravarti said, ‘I will give anything to God; I will renounce even my guru.’ For God, one may sacrifice anything. Bhakta Mīrā belonged to Tulasīdās's time. One day the Mahārāṇā said, ‘Leave my palace.’ ‘My husband is God. My husband is my only refuge. In such a situation, how am I to leave my husband?’ This doubt came to Mīrābāī. Before she went to Dvārakā, this matter had to be settled one way or another. So she sent one of the royal servants to Tulasīdās. At that time Tulasīdās was on Citrakūṭa hill. ‘Swāmī! What would be good for me to do in this situation?
