Passage 13

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Should I renounce my husband, or renounce God?’ she told him to ask. Then he sent back word: ‘Renounce even your husband. But do not renounce God.’ Meanwhile a message sounded from within her: ‘Cal re man gaṅgā yamunā tīr’. She had set her mind on nothing like going to Prayāg or booking a ticket. The place between iḍā and piṅgaḷā is the place between the brows. That is the yamunā tīr. ‘Gaṅgā yamunā nirmala pānī śītala hove śarīr. Cal re man! Mora makuṭa pītāmbaradhāri kuṇḍala rajita śarīr.’ The meeting of Gaṅgā and Yamunā, the two, is Prayāg. The seat of recaka, pūraka and kumbhaka is the seat of Prayāg. In such a way Mīrā made her sacrifice. Whoever tells us of a path against God, we must not listen at all. We must take the vow, ‘Even if the sky falls on my head, whatever happens, I will not give up God.’ Even if you hold fire in your hand and it burns, you must not give up God. Even if heaven turns into earth and earth into heaven, you must not change God.

Faith in God is the true protection

In any situation whatever, faith in God must stay firm. That faith itself is the true protection. Young Abhimanyu was setting out for war. He bowed to his mother, Subhadrā. But she weeps. At that time Arjuna had gone to war. Nakula and Sahadeva had gone, to be a help to Arjuna. Bhīma was in the thick of it all, guarding everything. Dharmaja alone was there. The boy came. He begged his uncle to give him permission.

It is the lotus array; the crusher of the pride of foes swollen with their strength, mighty Kumbhaja, is the one who laid it out; the battle is terrible; your wife is with child; we cannot tell how the times will turn; your uncle and your father are not here: give up your thought now, my son!

He told Abhimanyu so: ‘Your wife is with child. Your uncle Kṛṣṇa is not near. Your father Arjuna is not near. We cannot tell how the times will turn. So give up your thought,’ said Dharmaja.
