In plain words
Or if the mother eats, is the child's hunger satisfied? Sin and merit, both of them, are each one's own. The mother cannot share the child's, nor the child the mother's. You may share property and possessions, but you cannot share God's grace. Yours is yours; theirs is theirs! But pray that all may be well. That is a most noble thing to do. For this very purpose, after every bhajan, comes the prayer ‘Samasta lokān sukhino bhavantu.’
We Must Foster the Good Feeling ‘I Am God’
Embodiments of Prema! We must not let quarrels grow within the villages over little, little things until they turn into something like a great war. Whose loss is this? If we look into it well, the anger that came in that moment is a hardship to our own village. So we must give no room to quarrels of this kind. We must keep living in harmony with one another. Some anger or other came. In a little while it cools down. But we must look after the progress of the village. We must look after the welfare of our family. We must work hard for name and standing. For our name and standing we must give up even life itself. ‘Hastasya bhūṣaṇaṃ dānam.’ What is the beauty of the hand? Are bracelets its beauty, or golden bangles, or wristlets? No, no. ‘Satyaṃ kaṇṭhasya bhūṣaṇam.’ Putting on big necklaces is not the ornament of the throat. We must speak Satya from the throat. That itself is the true ornament of the throat. ‘Śrotraṃ bhūṣaṇaṃ śāstraṃ..... bhūṣaṇakiṃ?’ What need is there of ornaments more useful than these? These three alone are the ornaments man needs. With this we must win renown. We must speak Satya, we must make sacrifice, we must listen to the good. If we have these three, there are no other gods greater than us. You yourselves are gods; there is no God apart from you. Think in that way; think, ‘Ahaṃ brahmāsmi’! If you bring yourself such noble feelings, good thoughts will keep coming to you: I am God. So there arises from within us the conscience, ‘I must behave as God.’ If such sacred feelings are to arise from within us, we must foster the good feeling ‘I am God, God.’
