In plain words

Property May Be Shared, but God's Grace Cannot Be Shared

We must achieve unity today. Today even those in one house have no unity with one another. There is no unity between one house and the house next door. There is no unity between village and village. There is no unity between one state and another. What wretched fate is this? These are nothing but the marks of evil minds! Those who wish for the welfare of the country will give no room at all to quarrels of this kind. There is all the water we need, in Bhārata. The Gaṅgā, the Yamunā, the Godāvarī, the Kṛṣṇā, the Kāverī: what great, great rivers that never run dry! Why should they not make good use of all this water? When they go to fight, saying ‘This is mine, this is yours’, to whom will he give this body? No one will even touch it.

All the kin come as far as the doorway, only to the burning-ground; the kinsman in times of trouble, who breaks the bond and never leaves you, is the Name of God, my dear!

‘Mine, mine.’ What is yours? Nothing is yours. You yourself are not you. Where does this ‘yours’ come from? Hoarding and hoarding everything, at the very end you leave it all at one stroke and go with empty hands. What did you bring at the time you were born? What will you take at the time you go? If we understand these two well, greed in our human nature will rot away. Did even one man, when he was born, come wearing even this much of a loincloth? No. He did not bring even one scrap of cloth. ‘My children, my sons, my sons-in-law,’ he frets, for nothing. Who are yours? When you go, do you leave them your address? If they are all yours, why should you not leave them your address when you go? They are not yours. Who is whose? As long as you are here, you must carry out your duty! But in the matter of God, each for himself! The mother has great love for the child. If the child falls ill and suffers, the mother suffers ten times more than that. Because she has Prema for the child, does the mother take on the stomach-ache that has come to the child? She cannot take it on. In the same way, if the child is hungry, does the mother say, ‘Be patient a little, I will eat and come’!
