In plain words
Today man's problems come from these very vegetables. If I tell you, I wonder whether you will eat your meal! In the old days the chilli was this small. At home, that one was enough heat for the chutney of five or six people. Today, with all the fertilisers put on, every single chilli is this big. Eat the whole chilli, and there is not the least heat in it. Not only this: where are all these growing? This is the root cause of all our diseases! No government may sit with its eyes shut. In Bangalore we see all kinds of vegetables. A cauliflower is this big. A cabbage is this big. But how are they grown? All the city's drainage water comes there. They grow them on that water. It becomes the root cause of diseases. How they eat them, I cannot understand. The government knows that water is being used in this way. Because they are hungry, they eat up whatever there is. These very vegetables are the root cause of heart disease and cancer! Besides, they spray chemicals on the vegetables. The village people do not know this. They cut them just as they are. The chemical put on to kill insects is killing human beings. In this way the mind of man is being badly spoilt by food. The more purely man thinks he must live, the more impure he turns out. Into the heart where good feelings should come, all the bad feelings come and enter. So wholesome food is most essential. Then milk. We must not drink thick milk. In fact, today thick milk is not to be found at all. Instead of us, they pour in the water themselves and bring it. Even if good milk is brought from there, in our hostel they pour water into it. Pouring water in is good! Because we must not drink thick milk. They have said, One cup of wine is better than one cup of milk. For thick milk fosters the tāmasic. It builds some muscle, but it goes very much against one's guṇa. Today we need not worry about milk. The seller himself brings it with half of it water. But we must build up the body's strength. We must eat well. We must take rice and chapathi at this age.
