Passage 8

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Though you strut, saying you have learning, on the earth there is not a speck of Śānti; going about stiff with pride because you have wealth, on the earth there is not a speck of Śānti.

What is this wealth, this strength? All this is clouds that drift away. When we watch the clouds, their shape goes on changing. Our life too is just the same!

On the road of life with no clouds at all, would light ever have any value?

Truly, if there were no clouds, light would have no value at all. Only because there are clouds does light have value. In the same way, in humanness many ups and downs keep following us. Moment by moment man makes many efforts to reach a higher state of life. Humanness that struggles for the gain of what is not its due, with unceasing toil, with constant anxious striving, with endless desires, with an anguish it does not understand, has become impermanent. All these are gains of what is not one's due! They are not gains of what is one's due. It is spiritual lamps alone that show the fine royal road for this, that show the way of light! We must light those lamps for ourselves. We must foster that sacred faith. However many things there are, they will never come with us. What comes with us is In you, with you, above you, below you, around you. you are GOD. That alone is Divinity.

God Alone Is the True Friend!

When the pond is full to the brim, frogs gather by the ten thousand. Wherever you look, the frogs keep croaking. When that water dries up, not one frog stays there. Your friendships today are just like this! There is a hundred-rupee note in your pocket. Your father is in a good position. All of them come to you saying, ‘Hello, hello.’ But the hundred-rupee note is spent. Your father has retired. There will be no one to say ‘Hello’ to you. That is how friendship is today.
