Passage 9

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

This is not friendship. God alone is the true friend! He alone is the friend who will never leave you

Whether you are in the forest or in the sky, in the town or in the village, on a hilltop or in midstream, Sai never forgets you in His heart.

Such a true friend people forget today. They tie themselves to friends who are like clouds that drift away from one moment to the next. All this is a danger to ourselves. But at that time we cannot understand it. By and by, today's friend is tomorrow's enemy. Today's enemy is tomorrow's friend. But God is not like that. Friendship with God is heart to heart, love to love. Friendship between individuals is body to body, money to money, and nothing more! How long will it last? All these are clouds that drift away. We must not believe it to be lasting. God alone is the lasting principle.

You Yourself Are God

Whether you believe it or not, Divinity fills everything everywhere. You yourself are God. There is no God greater than you. So you must go on holding faith in the Veda. Even if you do not know the Veda, when the elders speak of it you must listen and believe it. If you go along the bazaar, a palmist sits there. Each one gives five rupees and shows him his hands. They believe the words he says. They believe the words of the man who talks in the bazaar. The Veda, the very form of God: ‘Prajñānaṃ Brahma’. My dear! You yourself are Brahman. ‘Tat tvam asi’: you yourself are That. ‘Ahaṃ brahmāsmi’, so the inner voice teaches. People do not make the least move to believe such eternally true words. We hear what a man not worth a farthing says and follow it. What is the reason? We have faith in that. ‘A rag quilt to suit the sack’, as they say: those who are impermanent like only what is impermanent.
