In plain words
Those given to pleasure revel in comforts of every kind. Does divinity come to them just by that? Does Ātma-jñāna come just by this? No, no. Only when we look on everything as offered to God, and live in the full faith, ‘God's heart alone is my own abode,’ does Ānanda come to us. Ānanda is not gained through some other object. Ānanda is not gained through some other matter. Ānanda is not gained through some other person. Ānanda is gained through the Ātma alone. Man thirsts for Ānanda. Man is the abode of Ānanda. Man is the very embodiment of Ānanda. What is the reason that man, who is so full of Ānanda, falls prey to sorrow? Attachment to the body is the root cause of it. You do not have to leave this body and go. You need not give up your duties. Doing all your work, living in society, flourishing as one of the community, you must never forget God. For a man without Prema for God, however much wealth and riches he has, there is no gain. True property, true riches, true prosperity, true wealth: it is Prema for God alone! What is the use of a man living, if he is not worthy of God's Prema? Prema bound to the world is just like passing clouds! In a moment it comes, in a moment it goes.
Divinity Is the Consciousness in All
The Ānanda that is eternal, with no coming and going, the Prema that is eternal: that is God's Prema. You must become worthy of such Prema. The Gopīs of those days, the Gopālas, all the people living in Vrepalle went on becoming worthy of such Prema. But, going by man's worldly notions, people went on uttering many words of blame and praise: ‘Kṛṣṇa did this, Kṛṣṇa did that.’ Kṛṣṇa was in Vrepalle only up to His fifth year! To say that such a boy behaved in a way against society is meaningless. Once He reached Mathurā, He never came back to Vrepalle. Unable to understand such sacred divinity, they cast their own feelings on God, as the saying goes, ‘Yad bhāvaṃ tad bhavati’, and so they move away from God.
