In plain words
The moment you make yourself an offering, He and you are one! I and you are one.
As Milk and Water Become One, the Devotee Must Become One in God
‘Tat tvam asi’, ‘Ahaṃ brahmāsmi’: until you come to this state, God is God and the devotee is the devotee! You are you! God is God! If you and God are to become one, you must become an offering to God. How? As water and sugar become one. The two have become one. The sugar is not separate. Humanness has not understood this. The senses cannot understand this. A small example. This is a tumbler. We have put fruit juice into it. The tumbler does not know the sweetness of the fruit juice. We have put a straw in it. The straw too does not know the sweetness. When it reaches the tongue, you know it. The body knows sweetness through the senses. It is known through the tongue that is Buddhi. Caitanya says:
O tongue, you who know taste and love what is sweet, I tell you what is true, wholesome and supreme: utter the sweet syllables, ‘Govinda, Dāmodara, Mādhava.’
‘O sweet tongue! O dear tongue! You must utter the true and sacred Name of Govinda. You must keep the heart pure, steady and selfless.’ Today man regards God as different from himself. In this way, however many generations, however many births he takes, he cannot become one with God. As water becomes one in milk, the devotee must become one in God. You need do no tapas of any kind; you need keep no vratas of any kind. You need do no dhyāna of any kind. By Prema alone you can achieve it. It is Vedānta that taught such a principle of Prema. It taught, ‘Raso vai saḥ.’ God is the very embodiment of rasa! You too are the very embodiment of rasa! That itself is the principle of the Ātma. By the time you begin to take in this rasa, attachment and Ahaṅkāra, both of them, block the way.
