In plain words
The boys and girls of today are wasting their time greatly. They are misusing it in useless talk. They do not use it for good words. They give no room to good thoughts.
You do not know how hard it is if you go out into the world at this age and look. Only in Prasanthi Nilayam do they spend it well, joyfully, in bhajans, worship and songs, singing Rāma, Kṛṣṇa, Govinda. Go outside, and their songs are quite another thing. They keep singing songs without meaning. They make no sense at all. Dadādadā dadā: what is this? Was it for this that we were given a mouth? Do you know why the tongue was given? For speaking the Name of God. Such a tongue we are misusing. Jayadeva:
O tongue, knower of tastes, lover of what is sweet, I tell you the truth, the good, the supreme: repeat the sweet syllables 'Govinda, Dāmodara, Mādhava'.
He gave the tongue four titles. O tongue that knows the tastes, O sweet tongue, O tongue that speaks Satya, O beneficial tongue. Why should we put such a holy tongue into unholy words? Today we are putting the tongue into unholy speech. Every student must keep his words under control. They must be such as give joy to others, melt the heart and delight the mind. Anyhow, when a song on God is being sung, never mind atheist, never mind theist, never mind atheist-theist, anyone at all: of their own accord they nod their heads without even knowing it.
If they say 'Kṛṣṇa!' just once, it looks as if all their troubles are over.
Kṛṣṇa, where are You? Why do You not come here? Why do You treat me like this, Kṛṣṇa? Where are You? Why do You not come here? Will You not have mercy on this servant, Kṛṣṇa? Will You not have mercy on this servant?
As Rādhā sang in this way, all the other women of Vrepalle forgot themselves. They let fall the pots from their hands. For what am I living?
For You I bear a life with no shade to stand in; my mind will not stay still, when Your smiles are far away; You do not come before my eyes even in a dream. (For You I bear …)
