Passage 6

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

What are human values? Without these values man is not man. He may be a man in form, but he can never be a man in conduct. What is the support of man? Satya, Dharma, Śānti, Prema, Ahiṃsā: these five elements alone are his support. Vedānta has gone on teaching these five elements as the five prāṇas. That itself is prāṇa, apāna, vyāna, udāna, samāna. Only when we make these five one does it take shape as true Divinity. Satya must join with Dharma. Dharma must join with Śānti. Śānti must join with Prema. Prema must join with Ahiṃsā. All of them become one. All of them are merged in the one; they are not separate.

No being without Prema is to be found in the world

There are students here. Today you are young men. Brahmacarya, gṛhastha, vānaprastha, sannyāsa: all these are separate āśramas, but in all of them is the one person! The brahmacārī himself becomes the gṛhastha. The gṛhastha himself becomes the vānaprastha. The vānaprastha himself turns into a sannyāsī. Sannyāsa has no separate form, nor has gṛhastha, nor vānaprastha, nor brahmacarya. One and the same person goes through many changes in these āśramas. In the same way Prema takes on many forms. Where there is Prema, no violence at all takes place. Where there is Prema, Śānti is there in its fullness. Where there is Prema, Dharma moves in its right course. Where there is Prema, Satya speaks as Satya itself. In the Gītā, ‘Anudvegakaraṃ vākyaṃ satyaṃ priya hitaṃca yat’; where there is love, everything becomes one. Place and time have no hold over it. A being without Prema, a creature without Prema, is not to be found in the world. Even if he does not know it, each one has love for himself. Such Prema itself is God. That is: Love is GOD, Live in LOVE. In this way we must give human values their full meaning in life. We must show humanness to the world as an ideal, as a principle of life worthy to be followed. How should man conduct himself?
