In plain words

After some time had passed, the rich one became king. Out of their childhood friendship, the poor one set out to see the king. Because his food and way of life had not been right, his body had grown weak. The king was eating nourishing food and was well content. But this poor man went to see the king holding a stick, trembling. In the course of their talk he said, ‘Sire! Everyone in the world is a servant! I live by serving.’ ‘Friend! Am I too a servant?’ The king asked. ‘Not you alone; your grandfathers and great-grandfathers, all of them, were servants!’ he said. Then the king: ‘I have as many servants as I need. I am the king. I am not a servant,’ he said. ‘That is your delusion,’ he said. Out of the freedom he had with the king, this friend resolved, ‘Very well, I must prove that very thing before his eyes.’ Saying, ‘I will go now, and come again,’ he bowed and let the stick in his hand slip to the ground. He could not bend forward himself to pick it up. Out of friendship the king himself bent and handed him the stick. Then: ‘King! Just now, when my stick fell to the ground, you handed it to me. Who is the servant, you or I? No one can tell what time, what occasion, what season will come about, when, where or how. You too will have to serve. You may take it as done out of Prema, you may take it as done out of respect for me; be that as it may, you bent at the waist and handed me the stick,’ he said.

The divine power in man cannot be told as so much and so much

Every man is the very image of God! In the world there are many crores of people. Among so many crores of people, many move about with many different feelings. But what is so special here, that human birth should be called the highest? ‘Jantūnāṃ narajanma durlabhaṃ.’ What is the root cause of this rarity? The Bhagavad Gītā has told it. ‘Mamaivāṃśo jīvaloke.’ I alone dwell in all living beings! The Ātma in Me, the Ātma in every man, the Ātma in every living being is one! So He said.
