In plain words
True strength for the body comes through service
Students! I am telling the boys from Hyderabad not to say, ‘Today we did some service’, but to take part in this service all their lives, whenever a chance comes. You eat a meal in the morning. At night you eat again. Then you eat tiffin as well. Do you eat only once? In the same way, in life it is not a matter of doing it once. Just as we give food to the body, so we must give life, morning, noon and evening, this food called service. Service itself is its food. True strength comes to us through that service. At any time, never mind the town, the village, the road or the market: wherever it may be, when your service is needed, bend at the waist and work. Even if you have no one to help you, do it alone. Ten others will join and come. Someone or other will help. It is most necessary for every young man to render service of this kind. Because from ancient times there has been no leader to teach such sacred ideas, Bhārata has fallen into such a sorry state. From that day to this, the children have been ready for sacrifice. That the elders cannot give right guidance in this is the cause of it. All this fault is the elders', not the children's. From today, as you do this service, you must go on giving such an ideal to your children, your little ones, your grandsons and your granddaughters. Saying, ‘Our grandfather did so much service,’ your grandsons too will enter into it. The possessions you must hand on to your children are not houses and courtyards. You must hand on to them a sacred renown. You must hand on to them the renown of the good deeds you have done. That itself is lasting wealth. All other wealth is only passing clouds! Nothing whatever is permanent. Everything is impermanent! But fame alone is permanent. This Satya alone is permanent. So, enter today on the path of Satya; it does not matter even if there is no worship of God, but serve others.
