In plain words
That alone is spiritual learning. As long as man keeps a close bond with this Manas, the spiritual does not take hold in his heart. Manas is a marvel. Its form is stranger still. Its dwelling place is a great mystery. Its form cannot be recognised. It alone is all forms! There is no form that it is not. The whole world rests on Manas alone. The day man recognises this principle of Manas, that very day he becomes one who has recognised divinity too. Manas has no form. But whatever it takes refuge in, it takes on that form. In this Manas many bad qualities and good qualities are mixed together. This itself gives merit. This itself makes us sin. It gives joy, it gives sorrow.
Desire beyond the limit brings loss of reason
It saves us from tears, it brings on tears; it makes the yogi a bhogi, and the bhogi a yogi; it drives us mad, and it drives madness away.
There is nothing it does not do. This Manas does all things. But good and bad lie in the way we use it. Learning is not the basis for recognising the principle of Manas. Riches and wealth are not the basis. Position and fame are not its basis. Yet we think there are many bad qualities in man.
