In plain words

How much good counsel she gave that husband, how much wise advice she offered! But he would not listen. Through her wise advice he was able to live for ten months. In this way, from ancient times, the noble women of Bhārata have set forth and handed on ideals of so many kinds and gone on protecting the country.

We must bring under control the Manas that is master of the senses

Women who are embodiments of the divine Ātma! From this day at least, you must develop the right path in your homes, plant the sapling called divinity and strive to lead it along the sacred path. You must recognise the power of Manas well and act accordingly. In a single moment Manas turns man into a demon. In a single moment it turns him into a beast. In a single moment it turns the beast into Paśupati. The Manas that moves in all beings with so many kinds of strength and ability is one and the same! You must recognise this principle of Manas well and set it on the right path. ‘O Manas! You must not behave as you please. Who are you? You are the master of the senses. You are Indra. In our histories we describe Indra in many ways. Indra is not in some other world. The Manas that is master of our senses is itself Indra. That is precisely why it is described in the Veda: ‘Candramā manaso jātaḥ cakṣo sūryo ajāyata mukhā dindraśca agniśca...’ Our Indra-nature lies in our own qualities alone. We must bring under control the Manas that is master of the senses. This Indra is subject to Buddhi. Buddhi is subject to the Ātma. So: ‘Buddhigrāhyam atīndriyam’. Through the one feeling of the Ātma, everything comes under our control.
