Passage 8

In plain words

The root cause of the dire state of the country today is the loss of self-confidence!

Embodiments of Prema! Even a little child knows what state the country is in today. Wherever you look, wherever you listen, you see and hear nothing but dreadful things. What is the root cause of this? What is its foundation? The reason we cannot recognise our own power that lies within us is simply that desires have grown beyond measure! Along with this, selfishness and self-interest have grown very great. The root cause of everything is the loss of self-confidence! Self-confidence is a most urgent need. Without that self-confidence, everything is an ill omen for us! Everything is unrest for us! What does one who is full of unrest want? He has no need of the world at all. Only one who lives in Śānti wants this world. Today, search in any man you like, and not the least trace of Śānti is to be seen. For the sake of Śānti they leave the earth and go to the moon. Even when they reach the moon, the body cools down but the mind heats up.

Holding an atom bomb in their hand, they cry out, ‘Śānti! Śānti!’

What is this? Where is Śānti to come from? In the hand is a bomb. If you hold such a bomb, will you gain Śānti? Will he sink, in unrest, into that terrible thing? Today, in the Kali age, dreadful scenes appear along paths of many kinds.

We must strive to bring up our children on the right path

Embodiments of the divine Ātma! The Ātma in all is one! One must strive to live trusting one's own Ātma. The man of today cannot trust himself. In such conditions bad feelings and evil thoughts arise. Our support is the Name of God alone! That Name too must spring from the home. It must set out from our own home. Only then will divine feelings take shape in our children too.
