Passage 4

In plain words

Rāma did not agree to this. Only with the permission and consent of My parents will I be ready for this marriage. Until then I will not agree to the marriage,’ He said. In the end He did not so much as look at Sītā. ‘My parents' wish alone is My wish. I cannot do anything at all against their wish. My body, My mind, the blood in My body, the thoughts in My head: all these are My parents' gifts! I am bound by their command,’ He said flatly. Viśvāmitra too came and went on urging Rāma in many ways. Then Rāma said, ‘Mātṛdevo bhava, pitṛdevo bhava.’ The parents are divine lights who have taken human form as a visible embodiment. I cannot defy the command of such parents. How can a man who cannot satisfy his parents satisfy God? So first of all the parents themselves are God,’ He said.

The mansion of life rests only on the foundations of Satya and Dharma

Besides this, the Vedas commanded, ‘Satyaṃ vada, dharmaṃ cara.’ We must follow Satya and Dharma. On the very day man gives up these two, danger befalls the country. The country's prosperity and the goodness of life both rest on man's conduct alone. What is sweet for man is right conduct itself! Man is losing such morality and honesty. Man must take a vow to protect this morality and honesty. Only when the foundations are secure can the building stand for ever. The mansion of life grows only on the foundations of Satya and Dharma. Human life is very precious. It is worthy of our faith. Many people are unable to understand what life is. Nothing else in the world is seen that surpasses human life. Man must make his life worthwhile through Satya and Dharma alone. We must honour the mother. Prema arises first of all from the mother. The moment he is born, every man is blessed with his mother's Prema.
