Passage 4

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

You have to see the moon only by the light of that moon itself. In the same way, if you want to see the Paramātma, the embodiment of Prema, you can see Him only through Prema, and by nothing else is it possible at all. Prema is like a compass. Wherever you set this compass, it turns towards the north alone. In the same way, man's Prema must turn towards the Paramātma alone, in whatever circumstances. A nature that turns towards Prakṛti is not right for it. Every man must turn the principle of Prema in him towards God. Such a divine form of God goes on shining in all. You must drive away the feeling of difference that says ‘I am separate, God is separate’. What is in that form, too, is the same God who is in this form! Forms may differ, names may differ, the force of circumstances may differ, but the supreme principle is one alone!

To recognise your own reality is your chief goal

People teach many kinds of paths, such as Bhakti-yoga and Jñāna, for reaching God. Bhakti does not mean merely singing bhajans with pitch, rhythm, melody and beat. Yoga does not mean sitting in a corner and holding your nose. Jñāna does not mean making the acquaintance of many books and deluding yourself, ‘We have gained Jñāna by reading books.’ All these are gifts of grace bestowed by God! First of all you must believe the truth that God is not separate from you. For what purpose has He given us all these? A small example. You have made yourself a fine bed to sleep on. The ceiling fan keeps turning well. The AC, too, is working nicely. The mattress, the pillow, everything is comfortable. But sleep just does not come to you. What use to us is this fan that does not bring sleep? What use to us is this AC that does not bring sleep? What use are mattresses that do not bring sleep? In the same way, He has given you all the things in this world, too, so that you may experience the Prema of God.
