In plain words
Your state, your mind, your course, your wealth: all these are a gift of grace that God has given only so that you may experience the Prema of God. What use to us is our state, our course, our wealth, if they do not give us this principle of Prema? Every man must look on all these, mind, course, state and wealth, as gifts that God Himself has given for attaining God. Men today delude themselves that there are many things in the world to be enjoyed. These are only empty delusion, nothing more! To recognise your own reality is your chief goal.
Man believes in everything, but he does not believe in God
God is not in some separate land; God dwells in one's own body itself; sin is not in some separate foreign land; it clings to the deeds one does.
In every act, this echo or reflection or reaction: all are resolves of God! First of all, we must believe this truth. But, unfortunately, man today believes everything, but does not believe in God. When a beggar going along the bazaar reads a palm and says something, we believe it. Whatever the almanac brahmin says, we believe it. We look at the calendar, believe that today is Thursday, and keep the Thursday vrata. How did you come to know that it is Thursday? You say it from looking at the calendar. You say it is Thursday from looking at the calendar the astrologer wrote. You believe the words the astrologer spoke, but you cannot believe what the holy Veda has taught: ‘Ahaṃ brahmāsmi’, ‘Tattvamasi’, ‘Prajñānaṃ brahma’, ‘Ayamātma brahma’. ‘Ahaṃ brahmāsmi’, ‘I myself am Brahman’: that you cannot believe. Property and possessions that are not yours, you believe are ‘mine, mine’. How long will this last? Whose are they? Did you bring them when you came? Nothing at all. When he comes, he does not come wrapped in even this much cloth; at the time of going, he does not leave even an address.
