Passage 8

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Such Satya is you yourself. You yourself are Satya. Only when you firmly believe such a divine feeling and bring it into experience does the form of Satya become visible to you. But if you believe the feeling that the body is the self, forget the principle of the Paramātma, and then search for the Ātma, how can it become visible?

By thinking the body itself is ‘I’, people fall prey to faults

Embodiments of Prema! Put a stop to describing this with the mouth. Open the heart! But man today keeps the heart shut and keeps his mouth open. That is why Mallamma praised so grandly, ‘Agamya, agocara, apramāṇa, apratihata.’ To a pond, the lotus flower is its adornment. To a village, its houses are its adornment. Without houses, a village has no adornment at all. To the sky, the moon is its adornment. To the ocean, its waves are its adornment. To a person, virtue is the adornment. What is that virtue like? That very thing they have been calling ‘conduct’. That very thing they have been calling ‘morality’. The ways we conduct ourselves in our daily life must be pure. This very purity they have been calling character. You must become people of such character. You must believe that you yourself are God, that God is in you yourself. Say, ‘This is my body’! There is nothing wrong in that. But you must not say, ‘I am the body.’ That is where all these faults come in. By thinking that the body is oneself, one falls into fault. Say ‘my body’, and there will be no fault at all. If you think ‘This is my cloth’, you can throw it away. If you say ‘I am the cloth’, how can you throw it away? You must go on reducing attachment to the body, little by little. Attachment to the Ātma must grow day by day. Only then will the principle of your life become visible in a single moment. It will be in keeping with whatever our feeling is. Annamācārya said, ‘In whatever measure anyone thinks of You, just so much are You.’ If you think you are God, you will become God. If you think you are a demon, you turn into a demon. If he thinks he is wretched, he turns into a wretch. If he thinks he is God, he turns into God.
