In plain words
A small example: on this map of the world, India is very small. Within India, Madras State is smaller still. In this Madras State, your house is very small indeed. And within your house, what are you! For you, who are so small, to swell with pride over the vast world: what madness! If you recognise your place in this world, there is no room at all for Ahaṅkāra.
You know how many hardships and losses the country is suffering today, because each toils for his own selfish ends. In the field of politics, unrest is going beyond all bounds. What is the reason? Selfishness, selfishness, selfishness! Everyone is striving for a seat, but no one is striving for the people. ‘My power, my chair,’ they say, and clutch at office and hang on to it; but no one takes any thought for the people. How long will the chair remain? When the very body is crumbling, is the chair alone to stand firm? So give up selfishness and cultivate broad feelings; remember the Name of God; lead a pure life.
