In plain words
She told him, ‘Give me a promise on these three.’ That is, the mothers of those days had the fear that, going out, they might join some company and be spoilt in some way. But the mothers of today are not like that. ‘Son! Have you passed? Book a ticket to go foreign’, they say. Then they go round and round for passports and visas. Stay in your country and serve your country. Wherever you do it, it is service. There is no difference of this country and that country. The whole world is one home. All human beings are one caste. Whatever foreigners they may be, all are brothers. We must recognise this truth well. We must not keep any differences of country at all. That is what I have been censuring Goldstein for. He said, ‘Two thousand delegates have come.’ These two thousand are people who came from abroad. India too is a part of the world, is it not! Why did he not speak of the Indian delegates? All are of one home. In the great mansion called the world, America is one room, Japan one room, Germany one room, France one room, India one room, Pakistan one room. The rooms are different. But house is one. We must go on feeling such oneness. That is why: all are one, my dear son! Be alike to everyone. We must take care to give no room to differences of any kind. You must set out to spread such equality, to follow it yourselves, to practise it and to pass it on to others.
The feeling of one Ātma through Prema
Spirituality is not a religion. Many said religion in the report. I do not like this thing called religion. Spirituality is needed by all countries. To realise is religion: what is this realising in religion? It is to realise oneself. Who am I? But the world today does not take this meaning. They think of it as something that belongs to one caste, to one creed. Muslims, Hindus, Christians, Persians use it in this way. For Me there is no such difference at all. All are one. We must develop such a feeling of one Ātma. If you take up the principle of Prema, the feeling of one Ātma comes easily. Through Prema these differences do not exist at all. Through Prema hatreds do not come. Through Prema there is no envy at all. Today humanness is so weakened by envy and hatred. If we are to nourish humanness, we must hold to Satya, Dharma, Śānti, Prema and Ahiṃsā. We must regard these qualities as the qualities of humanness. If we who are human beings lack the qualities of humanness, how can we be human? First of all, when we speak of human value, we must hold to that value. Only when that value is there do we become human. Without it, it is only a human body; we are not human. In this way we become human. Without it, it is only a human body; we are not human. In this way, in these three days you have come in here, spending a great deal of money and spending a great deal of time, and you have the chance to learn many things.
Leave the bad, take the good away with you
Young men! Young women!
Since you have come here, you must firmly do just two things. Leave your bad qualities and wicked ways here and go. Take good qualities, good feelings and a good name away with you. I am not asking anything of you. Leave the bad here. Take the good away. For the bodies called delegates, Prasanthi Nilayam is a work shop. These cars have come badly spoilt. Bolts, nuts, screws have all become loose. The colour is gone. Having come to this work shop, you must fit new bolts, new pins, new screws, new paint, and go like new cars. If you come to a workshop for repair and go away without any repair, what is the use of it? When you go, you must show others a change in your radiance, your conduct, your feelings. ‘Now our boy is quite new; he is not modern. He is full of sacred feelings,’ your parents will rejoice. By the time you go, your conduct must look very much changed. There is no use in a change seen only for the moment. You must go on nourishing it just so. If you go on nourishing it in this way, you will be ones who have uplifted the country. You yourselves are the leaders of this wide world. Without spending money and without wasting time, you must make good use of them and achieve it in your conduct.
