In plain words

As oil within sesame, as ghee within milk, as fragrance within a flower, as juice within a fruit, as fire within wood, so that unmoving Liṅga shines forth, O Lord.

As oil is in sesame seeds, as butter is in milk, as a sweet fragrance is in a flower, as juice is in a fruit, as fire is in firewood, so God is present in this vast and endless world. Mādhava, who is in the world, is in the human body as well. In what way is He in man? As sight is in the eyes, as sound is in the ears, He dwells in the body as the very form of consciousness. Creation is nothing but the form of Īśvara's will. This Prakṛti emerged from Īśvara Himself. Every human being born in this Prakṛti must hold to the feeling of Īśvara alone. Man is the very one who has taken form to bring forth the consciousness within man. Man must also have the chief qualities. Just as there are the sattva, rajas and tamas guṇas in Prakṛti, man, who emerged from Prakṛti, must have these three qualities. That is precisely the triad of ‘D’s. Devotion is the first. Discipline is the second. Duty is the third.

Young women and young men!

All of you are good indeed. But you must recognise discipline and act by it. In this discipline, you must see that sacred time is not wasted. How are you wasting time now? Clapping at every single thing, at everything, whether it is curious or very curious. Because of this, time goes to waste. These claps lose their value. Man is a being of sacred value. Every work he does must have value. You must practise this discipline and try to pass it on to others. Today the world has lost precisely this discipline. They do not know at all what discipline means. Going and sitting in a meeting, clapping at every word the leaders speak. This is nothing but a bad habit. This is not good. A great deal of time is wasted in this too. If even one moment is wasted, it is as though a great deal of life were wasted. You must not waste even a single moment. You must use every second in a very sacred way. When will this discipline come to us?

Character, equal to life

At this age, character is the most important thing, equal to life itself. You must nurture well this character that is equal to life. This age is a golden age. If we ruin such a sacred age, our life will be ruined in the future. Only when the sapling is sound does the tree come up well. So, start early, drive slowly, reach safely. This is a good time. A good seedling age. If this comes up well, the whole tree comes up well. We must use this age with great care. Whatever country people belong to, whatever time, whatever condition, discipline and character are the chief eyes. We have no need of questions such as how Americans must behave, how Germans must behave, how Russians must behave. Whatever country you are from, you are a human being. Caste of humanity, religion of love, language of the heart. When we recognise this truth, what does it matter to us which country anyone is from? Whatever country we are from, at this age at least we must guard our character as dearly as life.

The sages of old and the young of old kept up such qualities, and so they became makers of history. What does history mean? His story. Whose story? The story of the one who has character. That is precisely his story. If we are to become makers of history, we must guard our wealth of character. Only when we nurture this character at this age will our offspring, our people, our clan, everything, become exemplary. Only when the individual is pure does society become pure. When society is pure, the nation becomes pure. When the nation is pure, the world becomes pure. So, if we think the world is not in a right state today, its root cause is nothing but the fault of the individual.
