In plain words
If our minds are not right, what is the fruit of learning any amount of learning? First of all we must learn the learning of the Ātma. That is faith: self-confidence is very necessary. A man without self-confidence goes in for the sake of money. That is why foreigners keep questioning those who go abroad. “Sir! Why have you left Bhārata and come to this country? You have come not for a job but for money; work hard to earn money. Apart from that, do not talk,” they say, belittling them and shutting their mouths. To such a low state is all of today's education sinking. Earning ten thousand rupees abroad is like earning ten rupees in our own Bhārata. A little good land is enough.
Why ten acres of land that yields no crop? A little good land is enough; a ladleful of a good cow's milk is enough; what use a potful of donkey's milk?
Why do we need hundreds of Donkey Milk? We must go on fostering sacred quality. Why this quantity? Many parents think, “Our children must go abroad and earn, earn.” What is this earning? The fostering of character that one earns in Bhārata will not come at all in foreign lands. For man, character is what matters most. It is Bhārata itself that sets them in character. Divine, noble, ever-fresh conduct has entered into Bhārata alone. They hold on to crazy desires and go running. They run when they see a mirage, but that mirage does not quench thirst. The Gopīs of that age went on giving the world the feeling of God in the form of the Bhāgavatam. This is what Nārada went on teaching.
