Passage 11

In plain words

All the boys walked on looking down. Why should you look down? You walk on the road; look at the road. No accident will befall you. If you walk on the road looking this way and that, an accident may happen. All the children today are just like that. They go along the road on cycles. They ride along looking at cinema wall posters. While this fellow rides along gazing at them, a car comes from behind and knocks him down. An accident happens. What is the cause of this accident? Your own vision. You are walking on the road; go on looking at the road. There is no reason for you to look this way and that. This is bad vision. This is not samyak dṛṣṭi at all. Then he called that boy: “Boy, why did God give you two eyes? Did He give them to look at these mean sights? How many impure feelings take shape in you through this! When you walk on the road, look at the road. All these boys are walking. Why do you look at them?” Saying that one who looks with such vision must not stay in the community, he sent him away. Giving such strict training, the Buddha shaped them into people who were steady in sādhana. Through such samyak dṛṣṭi and samyak life, his life reached its fulfilment. That is samyak nirvāṇa. A sacred nirvāṇa took place. There were no desires. There were no intentions. He did no karmas. That is how samyak nirvāṇa comes about. If we set our vision right, in the end samyak nirvāṇa will come about.

To guard human values is the goal of the people of Bhārata

You who come from other lands! You of this land!

First of all, whoever it may be, once they have taken on a human form, all are human. Once you have taken on this humanness, human thoughts must come. What is the reason for developing these human values? In the Sathya Sai Organisations we have made human values most important. Only when we develop these human values do divine values emerge. Because we have eyes, we must not look as we please. Better to be blind than to have such eyes. What use is having them?
