In plain words
Life joined with God is true Ānanda; true Ānanda is not something joined with comforts and pleasures. The more these worldly pressures grow, the more unrest grows too. You do not recognise it, but unrest is hounding you from behind like a great ghost. Develop Prema. Speak Satya. Practise Dharma. Attain Śānti. This is Swami's special blessing today. Wherever you go, you must speak peacefully. Peacefully and sweetly. When you speak peacefully and sweetly, good feelings keep growing in you. Then society itself will regard you as good. Earn a good name of that kind. This is the true, valuable, chief new year's gift. You all think that by giving this tiger map you have given me some gift. That is not the gift. Give me the tiger qualities in you. It is a cruel beast. Give its qualities over to me. Take on the sacred life of the cow. The cow is sāttvic. How? It eats the grass we give it and gives us sacred milk. Is there anything more sāttvic than this? To eat rubbish and give back good: that is the mark of the cow. They gave the name of this noble cow to the earth: whether you say Bhūmātā or Gomātā, it is the cow. You must take such sacred feelings with you.
Embodiments of Prema! You have come here from very far, bearing much hardship and many troubles. From here you must take a heart full of Ānanda, go back to your own villages, spread it there and keep sharing it with all. The Ānanda you have experienced must not be enjoyed by you alone. That becomes selfishness. Only when it is shared with many does it become selfless. You must not enjoy Ānanda selfishly because you heard it yourself. I sometimes say, “Fish is better than selfish.” How is Fish better? Fish goes into the water and eats up the dirt in the water. It makes the water clean. But man today enters society. He hands all his badness over to society.
