In plain words
We must pray to God for Śānti and Ānanda. If it is ‘I want this, I want that’, you have those in the world. There is as much wealth in the world as you want. There is as much gold in the world as you want. There are as many diamonds in the world as you want. You need not ask for any of these. Everything can be seen in the world. But there are just two things, unseen and unheard, that are with God. They are Śānti and Ānanda. Ask God for Śānti and Ānanda. He Himself will provide everything. He will give you protection. He will give sustenance. He will give attachment, He will give detachment. He will give loving devotion, He will give Mukti. Whatever you want, He Himself will give. But what we must ask for is God alone. O God! I want You. If You alone are there, it is as though everything were with me. Today you must strengthen this desire. But you content yourselves for the moment with petty desires. And the very next minute you suffer sorrow again. Lasting Ānanda comes through God alone. Are there not so many rich people in the world? Are there not so many wealthy people in the world? Are there not so many people in power in the world? But are all of them enjoying Śānti? No. Śānti is God’s gift alone. So we must pray to God for Śānti and Ānanda, which are His gracious gifts. That comes only through Prema.
