In plain words
‘Without attributes, stainless, eternal, the abode, ever pure, awakened, free, of spotless form.’ So we must make only such permanent things our basis. If we make these temporary things our basis, our life too becomes temporary. The Ātma is eternal. Even if the body dies, the Ātma does not die. So we must take as our basis the Ātma itself, which does not die. That which we have taken as the basis we must take as a fundamental one. Only when we take this fundamental basis does even this temporary become sacred.
All research is limited to the physical level
Now, in truth, one needs water to drink. How do you get this water? He thinks this water is most important, equal to life. But scientists are making many kinds of experiments to make out this water. They say that oxygen and hydrogen, these two, joined together, become water. Man prides himself that he has created water through these two. Who created the oxygen and hydrogen for this water to come about? That itself is the fundamental. That itself is God's creation. Only because that creation of God is there do all these scientists test some matter, and through that it is being created. So in everything there is a permanent thing, a power of God. Through that divine principle he keeps developing the powers and abilities that are in humanness. In man there are infinite powers. There is no limit to them of one or two. Infinite, unreachable, invisible, immeasurable. That is why, what did the Veda say? ‘Yatovāco nivartante aprāpya manasā saha’. One cannot inquire into it with the Manas. One cannot inquire into it with the Buddhi. Engineers cannot research it. The Ātma principle, which is beyond all of this, is itself foremost. That Ātma is in every one.
