Passage 2

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

The oneness of these three is not to be seen anywhere at all. In the moral, physical, dhārmic, spiritual, worldly and scientific spheres, we find balance in not a single one. Whoever you look at, it is selfishness, selfishness. Self-interest. Through these two, man is wasting his own life. If humanness is to be made worthwhile, the oneness of these three is absolutely essential. Today man has advanced immensely in science. But morally, and in Dharma, man is sinking lower step by step. The reason is none other than selfishness. Whatever work you set out to do, selfishness is living on behind it. Whatever word you try to listen to, selfishness stalks you like a shadow. In everything, nothing but selfishness. The man of today lives as a puppet in the hand of selfishness. He lives with nothing that could be called the good of others, nothing that could be called sacrifice. “Not by karma, not by progeny, not by wealth; by sacrifice alone have some attained immortality.”

Everything Is Gained through Sacrifice Alone

What is this science? It is nothing but utter Ajñāna; it is not growing into science. How is this science working? They are going to the moon. They are going to the sun. They are circling the earth. They are striding ahead in everything, but man is making no effort to live in this world as a man. He roams the sky like the birds. He lives in the water like the fish, but he makes no fitting effort to live on the earth like a man. Staying somewhere or other, they drop bombs full of power and might, and in a single instant turn to ashes what lies many hundreds of thousands of miles off. What is remote control? Our eye cannot see it. He places it somewhere or other, and slays someone or other. Is there greatness in killing? Certainly not. Even an insect takes a life. We must nurture life. We must keep life alive. We must help life to grow. Today that spirit of helping things grow is nowhere to be seen in science. He scrambles only for his own name and fame. Science is flying off into the sky.
