Passage 6

In plain words

Why do people lose everlasting Ānanda for the sake of a thing like this? Only because they do not know of this everlasting Ānanda do they toil after such unsteady things. When we recognise the everlasting Satya, we will take no account at all of what does not last. In every task we must inquire into Satya. The one who has recognised this Satya lives always in Ānanda itself. Prema alone is Satya. Prema alone is life. Prema alone is the goal. Apart from Prema, no other thing can match Prema. So Prema alone is the equal of Prema. Through such Prema alone we must try to attain the Embodiment of Prema. But not worldly Prema. Not physical Prema. Not merely the Prema that belongs to Prakṛti. This is not the Prema of pravṛtti. This Prema of nivṛtti, eternal and true, is itself the Prema of God. Whether through hatred, through Prema, through hardship, through suffering, or through abuse, you can gain God's Prema. In the full assembly, Śiśupāla went on reviling Kṛṣṇa in many ways. He made Him hear words not fit to be heard. Dharmaja, who was in that assembly, could not bear it; he sank down; he wasted away. He stood frozen, in a state without any thought. Even as these insults were being heard, Śiśupāla's life came forth and merged into God. This seemed a still more displeasing thing. ‘Is this the Prema of a villain who reviled like this! Does the Prema of one who reviled God end in this way?’ he kept wondering. Dharmaja was offering the first tāmbūla to Kṛṣṇa. ‘With so many maharṣis present, is it to this cowherd boy that you offer the tāmbūla?’ So he railed at length. Unable to bear that railing, Dharmaja questioned Nārada, who was right beside him. ‘Nārada! Teach me a little about the inner meaning of even the one who reviled becoming one with God,’ he asked. O jewel among kings! Reviling, praise and scorn all belong to the body alone, not to the Ātma. Śiśupāla is reviling out of Prema, not out of hatred. The more he reviles, the sooner he reaches God. That is the way his curse runs. So he reviled Kṛṣṇa in many ways. Even if one reviles God out of Prema, there is no fault in it.
