In plain words
When the people of Gokula were all suffering, unable to bear the rain, Kṛṣṇa went to lift the Govardhana hill. From foot to head, men are full of nothing but doubts. From sole to crown, man is made up of suspicion. Though Kṛṣṇa kept telling them, ‘Come, sit under this mountain; I will protect you,’ all the people
‘He is a boy; the hill is huge, a mighty load; can this one carry it?’
So they doubted. In this way, men weigh strength taking the body's measurements as their basis. Divinity takes no account of the body's measurements; it keeps its eye on the measure of character alone. We must try to recognise the difference between God's Prema and the Prema of man in the world.
He Knows Only Giving, Never Taking
Man today makes many efforts to receive Prema. Man is always ready only to receive. But God's Prema is not like that. God's Prema is a Prema that gives, and gives alone. It is not the kind that takes. The hand that takes is only ever below. The hand that gives is above. So God is always the One who stays at the higher level; He never lives at the lower level. Whatever He does, whatever He sees, whatever He says, in everything God performs only selfless actions. Wherever you search, there is no selfishness at all in God. No self-interest at all. Man thinks his whole life is selfishness and self-interest alone. On the day we give up selfishness, on that very day the good of others appears before us. What is this selfishness? What is meant by selfishness? What is its result? What is its goal? What joy does it hold? It has no goal at all. It holds no joy at all. Man gets caught in it merely through delusion. All the karmas that come about through this body, whether unrest or peace, whether the result is gain or loss, all of them are unsteady and pass away. All these are only momentary.
