In plain words
These are the things he is forgetting.
Unity Brings Greater Strength
Society is not the ground you see with your eyes; society is the living human community itself. Unity is essential in society. There is no task in this world that man cannot accomplish through unity. All the children know it well: multiply a by a and b by b, add the two together, and it comes to a² + b². But multiply (a+b) by (a+b), and it comes to a² + b² + 2ab. What is the reason the term 2ab comes in extra here? Only the coming together of a and b. That is, through unity strength grows greater. However great a feat may be, it can be achieved easily through unity. Education must help to achieve such unity. But the students of today forget unity altogether; they pursue their studies with only a job and the earning of money as their aim. Students must recognise the truth that education is for knowledge and work is for bread.
The Feeling of One Ātma
Man is unable to know the divinity that comes before the Mahat. The chief mark of man is precisely this: to recognise his own divinity himself. But how is divinity to be recognised? People practise many sādhanas for this. This is not something gained through sādhanas. It is a matter to be understood and then recognised. Without understanding it, no matter how many kinds of sādhana you do, you cannot recognise it. Sādhanas that do not let you recognise it become useless. Unity is essential in humanness. The education of today helps precisely to bring about unity. But the outcome of this education is to some extent sliding downward. All the students studying today pursue their studies with only these two as their aim: a job and the earning of money. Education is for knowledge. You must recognise the truth that work is for bread. Once Kālidāsa held an assembly of scholars. But in this assembly of scholars, though two scholars carried on their argument and counter-argument day and night, neither of them seemed to give way.
