In plain words
Because its spiritual power was so deep, no one could touch it. Though there were those who ruled for hundreds of years, no one changed the sacredness of Bhārata. So the foundation the Maharṣis laid is a firm one for this Bhārata. Unable to protect the foundation laid in that age, we keep ruining it day by day.
We Must Develop Human Values
So, first of all, what must we protect? We must protect the value of humanness. We must develop human values. If these values are gone, what use is it to be born as a man? What are the human values? Prema, Satya, Dharma, Ahiṃsā, Śānti. These five are man's values. If we protect these five values, no one need protect us. ‘Dharma protects those who protect it.’ If you protect Dharma, Dharma itself protects you. If you punish Dharma, it punishes you. So Dharma itself protects us. Prema itself stands as our protection. Our Śānti itself is our crown. Our Ahiṃsā itself is our heart. Our heart is one with Ahiṃsā. No harsh words of any kind must come forth. If they do, that is no heart at all. Soft, sweet words must come from our heart. Words that gladden others must come. Words that displease others must not come. How unfortunate it is that man, who has a heart like this, is turning into a heart of stone! Men commit cruelties that even beasts do not. Man is becoming lower than the beast. Compassion and kindness are vanishing from man altogether. Nowhere is any value seen in Prema. For man, Prema is a second heart. Prema itself is man's true form. Through that very Prema we must achieve everything. We need not go searching somewhere for God. We need not do any sādhana. Love is God. Live in love. You must live in it. Through Prema alone you must win that Prema. No other labour is needed beyond this. You need not go through any hardships. You need not spend any money.
