Passage 17

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Surrender must be like that. Just as you mixed the water of your heart's vessel into the sea, merge the Prema in your heart with the Prema of God. The two become one. Oneness itself is the true principle of Ānanda. In oneness alone there is great Ānanda. A small example. All must live in unity. Two brothers, Vāli and Sugrīva. For want of unity between them, how many troubles they fell into! Then Rāvaṇa, Kumbhakarṇa and Vibhīṣaṇa: these three were children of the very same mother. But among them there was no unity of one with another. They fell into many troubles. There are the five Pāṇḍavas. Though quarrels arose among the Pāṇḍavas, one with another, they did not give up their unity. But they all went on living in unity. So their glory spread through the world. Through unity we can achieve anything at all. Today in our land of Bhārata there are 95 crore people. If all become one, there will be no one at all to touch this country. We can turn it all into heaven itself. Where is this unity? It is all enimity, enimity. There is no Unity, no Purity, no Divinity. Because the place in it is empty, enimity goes and sits there. The seat is empty. Thinking it will sit in it and enjoy itself, enimity goes and settles there.

Do Not Foster Hatred

Man today gives enimity a place in his heart, but gives no place in his heart to Prema, or to unity, or to divinity. The first thing man must give a place in his heart to is Prema alone, Prema for God alone. This seat called the heart is a single seat; it is not a double seat. Not musical chairs. Only one chair. If you seat Prema for God in that chair, no one can come near. All will go on following it. Only then will it win the glory it deserves.
