In plain words
That day Puṇḍarīka did not go to Pāṇḍuraṅga's temple. Pāṇḍuraṅga Himself walked to his house. He came, it is said, thinking, 'Why has Puṇḍarīka not come to My temple today?' He was pressing his parents' feet. Then Pāṇḍuraṅga said, 'Puṇḍarīka, I have come.' But Puṇḍarīka did not turn his head that way. He said, 'You have come, Swami! I am very glad; wait a little while.' He said, 'Until my parents fall asleep, I will not stop serving them.' Pāṇḍuraṅga said, 'I will wait.' In those days there were no chairs or sofas. There was a brick beside him. He tossed that brick behind him. He said, 'Swami! Sit on it; I will come.' Just as Puṇḍarīka had said, Pāṇḍuraṅga stood on that brick. After his parents had fallen asleep, he then turned round and bowed, saying, 'You have come, Swami!' Then Pāṇḍuraṅga spoke. 'My son! There is nothing greater than this service. If every person born in the world loves his parents and serves them, the whole world will become heaven. Today, because people forget their parents, the whole world has fallen into turmoil and is sinking in unrest. So, Puṇḍarīka! You are truly great. Go on giving your example to all children,' He said. God said, 'Regard service to your parents as service to Me.' It is not that we go to God. We must bring God Himself to us. We must win strength and capacity of that kind. For that strength and capacity, the Prema of parents itself is what matters most. Leave anyone else, but do not leave your parents. There are those who have selected their wives. But there is no one in the world who has selected his mother and father. God alone selects them. But it is not possible for anyone else to select them. This is not a selection. They are the very ones born before you. You have to take refuge in them. I hope that, receiving such blessings, man will progress and they will grow into ideal students in the world.
On this sacred ladies day, you must give ladies their due value. I see no one at all who honours ladies.
