In plain words

To each finger, it itself is the great one. That is true. Even so, the work comes out right only when all the fingers join. The president is great, the secretary is great, the co-ordinator is great, the member is great; all are great. Each is great in his own work. But if we are to make that work a success, the 5 have to join. Only when the Sai Samiti, the Sai Seva Dal, the Sai teachers and Sai Bāla Vikās all join does oneness come. So those in the Sai organisations must think of themselves as one hand. The fingers are separate, but they work together. So unity is very necessary.

Because It Has Had the Way of Growing Up Together from Ancient Times, Bhārata Has Become a Land of Merit, a Land of Sacrifice, a Land of Yoga

If there is unity, you can achieve any work, however great. Without unity we can do nothing. If one man walks alone for two miles, by the time he has gone one mile his legs ache. If ten people go together, he has no pain at all. Because the very courage that says, ‘There are 9 people with me,’ gives him zest. So when we all join together as one, we can do any amount of work. All of it will succeed. Not one will fail. Work together like that.

“Let us grow up together, let us go about together, together let us nourish the understanding we have come to know, let us live together in friendship, without discord.”

In the Veda, this very thing: “Sahanāvavatu,

sahanau bhunaktu, sahavīryaṃ karavāvahai, tejasvināvadhītamastu māvidviṣāvahai, oṃ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ,” is how they said it.
