In plain words

Observe Every Vrata with Purity of Mind

Īśvara explained to Pārvatī the greatness of the Varalakṣmī vrata and said, “Pārvatī! Have womankind observe it, wipe out their troubles and losses, and give them peace and comfort.” Performing this vrata is very easy indeed. But today it is great good fortune that the strength of the place and the strength of God are with you. You must observe any vrata with sacred feeling, with one-pointedness and with purity of mind. Only then will any result, however great, be yours. By the grace of God there is no task in this world you cannot do; you can achieve any deed, however great. When Sāvitrī could bring even her dead husband back to life, how small a matter are the things of this world! You can turn the earth into the sky and the sky into the earth. But you must pray with a pure heart. If you pass the time gossiping about the village, “They are like this, these are like that,” how will the tasks you have in mind succeed? Only when you give up the gossip of the world and take refuge in the Lord of the world will all your undertakings succeed.

Not Wealth but Dharma Is the Root

Embodiments of Prema! Foster the faith ‘God dwells in your heart’. Regard every body as a temple, and honour it. Believe that God is in every one. Then there will be no room at all in the world for quarrels and conflicts. Today quarrels and conflicts are growing because feelings of difference, ‘I am separate, you are separate’, and selfish interests have grown. Only when man develops moral, righteous and spiritual values will these quarrels and conflicts die away. I say now and then: “Money comes and goes, but morality comes and grows.” Money comes, and it goes. But morals, once they come, do not go; more than that, they even grow. Still, money is certainly needed. Without money it is not possible to live in this world. But you must not think that money is everything. Our ancients held, “Dharmamūlam idaṃ jagat.” But in this Kali age people say, “Dhanamūlam idaṃ jagat.”
