In plain words
When you serve anyone with a pure heart, not only is their suffering relieved, but purity grows in them too. So you must take part in service to society in a sāttvic spirit and make others sāttvic too. Serve as far as your strength allows. You sing bhajans morning and evening. But the satisfaction that comes from it is short-lived. Those who sing are satisfied as long as they sing, those who listen as long as they listen. If you want lasting satisfaction, you must serve society.
Śaṅkarācārya said, “Mākuru dhana jana yauvanagarvaṃ harati nimeṣāt kālassarvaṃ”: do not swell your Ahaṅkāra and your desires by looking at your youth, which perishes in a moment. You must give up desires. You must do the work that has to be done as and when it comes. You must not take anything to heart. Good and bad are both God's gifts of grace! Whatever happens, you must feel, ‘This is for my own good.’ Do not misuse time on the gossip of the town, worldly worries and impure thoughts. Take part in service to society so as to put time to worthy use. If you keep serving, evil feelings will not arise in you. No worries of any kind will come to your mind. In one who is absorbed in service to society, Ahaṅkāra and show are rooted out, and purity of mind grows. All karmas are only for purity of mind. “Cittasya śuddhaye karmaḥ.” Whatever service you do, you do it only for purity of mind. What is the use of doing karmas that do not bring purity of mind? With worldly desires you are wasting so much money, time and energy. Is there lasting peace in any single one of them? Peace comes and goes like a passing cloud. It is not this passing peace that you should seek. You must seek peace that is eternal and true. That springs from your own heart alone.

Embodiments of Prema! Human birth is divine, noble, ever new, most precious and worth living. If you are to make such a sacred birth worthwhile, you must first of all rein in the senses, and wish for the welfare of all, “Lokāsamastās sukhino bhavantu.”
