Away with Desire That Oversteps Its Bounds, Dear One!
Do not take it amiss, but wherever you make a sacrifice, there is some selfish gain or other there. Only in the Sai Organisations is there no selfishness, no self-interest. The Sri Sathya Sai Organisation is free of selfishness. Through such sacred organisations you can do any amount of good to people. But I do not expect you to do it. If I wished to do it, I could change the very world. Why am I telling you this? Your births too must find their fulfilment; your lives too must become sacred. There are so many rich people in the world. But such a spirit of sacrifice is not born in all of them. That the spirit of sacrifice is not born is a misfortune too!
Be he a millionaire, it is food and clothing alone; he cannot eat gold and live; when the time is against you, a stick itself becomes a snake; when fortune comes together, earth becomes gold; a pandit at one place turns into a beast; a fool at another time turns into a sage; the goddess of poverty, at one time, weds the rich man and fondly calls him kin; if there is only striving and no destined portion, not even a farthing comes near you; away with desire that oversteps its bounds, dear one; move with good sense near Sai.
However much wealth you have, what use is it? At the time of dying you cannot take away even a handful of earth. Many hoard all they have earned in banks and hide it away by stealth, but no one sets his hand to sacred sacrifice.
