Passage 9

In plain words

In self-confidence lies the fruit of every sādhana

Students! What is called “I” alone is eternal and true. So regard what is called “I” as God. Without a support there is nothing supported. Without water there are no waves, are there! In the same way, the Ātma is the support of everything. All worldly matters are like passing clouds. The Ātma alone is permanent. A small boy becomes a young man; a young man becomes an old man. The body changes, but ‘I’ does not change. When we travel by train, the hills and trees all seem to be running. A child who knows nothing wonders, “The hills and trees are running!” When the clouds run, the moon too seems to run. But the moon does not run. It is the clouds that run. In the same way, it is your feelings that run. The principle of the Ātma is unmoving. So you are eternal and true. You must recognise this truth first of all. It does not matter even if you do no sādhanas; it is enough if you firmly believe in the principle of the Ātma, which is eternal and true; in that alone you will gain the fruit of every sādhana.

You too are Hiraṇyagarbhas!

Embodiments of Prema! Today is a very sacred day. At six o'clock a most excellent time begins. That is when the emergence of the Ātmaliṅga takes place. God has the name Hiraṇyagarbha. It is from Hiraṇyagarbha that golden liṅgas emerge. But it is a great mistake to think that these emerge from Swami alone. You too are Hiraṇyagarbhas, embodiments of the eternal. Make this Awareness firm in your heart. Awareness means complete Understanding. If one learns a little about a few things, that cannot be called ‘awareness’. (Holding a handkerchief crumpled in his hand and showing a little of it at the top) When asked, “What is this?”, you say, “A handkerchief”, and that becomes ‘awareness’. How can it be ‘awareness’ to see a rat's tail and think you have seen the rat?
