You must have the feelings and the conduct that befit the human form. What is the use of being a man in form and a monkey in conduct? You belong to Mankind. So give up the Monkey-mind. Develop Kindness.
If you plunder nature's resources out of greed …
You know: the other day there was an earthquake in Gujarat, and many thousands lost their lives. What is the cause of this natural calamity? It is that man's conduct is not right. However much man achieves, he is not satisfied. He falls prey to desire beyond all limits. In God's creation there is Balance everywhere. The earth and the oceans are in ‘balance’. But man, out of greed, digs into the earth and takes out the oil, and every day catches crores of fish in the ocean. Because of that the ‘balance’ is lost in the earth and in the ocean, and earthquakes occur.
Man must first of all remove the ‘quake’ that is in himself. Only then can earthquakes be prevented. Not only the people of Bhārata but people of every country must protect the ‘balance’ in creation. Only when man recognises the truth that all the five elements are forms of God, and acts on it, will he fare well. The other day I sent rice, dal and other essential goods to Gujarat in some lorries. Then some people: “Swami! Instead of spending so much and sending so many goods, if You had stopped the earthquake from coming at all, there would be none of this suffering, would there!” they said. Then I told them: “My dear! Men themselves are the cause of earthquakes. It is men who are upsetting the ‘balance’ that nature has. That is why earthquakes occur. That is the Law of nature. In such a situation you must experience the Love of man”. That is, those in distress must be helped with Prema.
