Passage 12

In plain words

You must believe that your parents themselves are God in visible form, and give them the gratitude due to them. Whatever kind of man the son may be, the mother loves him and wishes him well. The bond of Prema between mother and child cannot be described. The children of today do not recognise such a mother's Prema. They scramble after their own selfish interests, but do not work for their parents' comfort and happiness.

Today we are celebrating ‘Easwaramma Day’ to proclaim to the world the greatness of the mother as divine. Never, in any situation whatever, cause your parents grief. As far as you can, give them satisfaction. Only then will God help you. Everyone calls his own country the Motherland. But nobody says Fatherland. That is, the country is like the mother. So, as you love your mother, love your motherland too, protect it, and work for the country's progress. This is today's main message.

In a few minutes P. Suśīla, her daughter-in-law and others will present a programme of devotional music. They have been Swami's devotees for the last 40 years. When Suśīla had no children, I gave her a son. I Myself performed that son's wedding too. The daughter-in-law who came to her is also a learned musician. All of them have come here today; they will sing a few songs to give everyone joy. Listen with joy. After that there is also a drama by the Bāla Vikās children in the Kalyāṇa Maṇḍapam. Do you know why we arrange these programmes? Man's mind is very fickle, like a mad monkey. To restrain such a mind, these talks, these music programmes and sacred prayers are very necessary. The body is like a water bubble. The mind is like a mad monkey. So do not follow the body and the mind. Follow the inner Ātma.
