Passage 3

In plain words

All bodies are like mirrors. In all the mirrors you see only your own reflection. You love your reflection; you do not hate it, do you? In the same way, you must love everyone. There is no God greater than Prema. When you fill your heart with Prema, your thoughts, words, deeds and looks all become full of Prema. Otherwise many evil qualities enter the heart and ruin humanness.

Along with samyak dṛṣṭi and samyak vāk, samyak śravaṇam too is vital. God gave you ears, not to listen to the gossip of the village. You must listen only to matters that concern the Ātma. The heart is like a vessel. You must fill it with Prema and with sacrifice. Then you need not seek Śānti separately; it will spring up from within you. By nature the heart is spotless, still and selfless. But by following worldly feelings you make it impure yourselves, of your own accord. A sacred heart is spoilt only because samyak dṛṣṭi, samyak śravaṇam and samyak vāk are lacking.

Grace is gained through Prema and sacrifice alone

Every man hopes for God's grace. But what is the effort he must make for it? A small example: suppose you have toiled hard to earn money and, for safety, deposited it in a bank. For you to take that money back, the bank manager has laid down certain rules. “That money is what I paid in. Give me my money”: if you ask this, what will the bank manager say? He will tell you to sign a cheque and bring it. In the same way, you have safely deposited in God's bank of Prema the fruit of the merit you have earned over many births. God even pays interest on it. If you would get that ‘money’ back, you must put the signature of Prema on the cheque of sacrifice and offer it to the ‘bank manager’, God. This is the way to attain Śānti, purity and nirvāṇa. Whatever changes may come in your life, your Prema for God must stay unshaken.
