In plain words

Every work I am doing is known to everyone in the world. In educational institutions outside, if a small child is to join the first class, he has to pay a donation of twenty or thirty thousand. But in our educational institutions, from K.G. to P.G., there is no fee of any kind. We do not take a single naya paisa from the children. In this way we have looked after many thousands of children. This is known to everyone in the world.

In hospitals outside they take two or three lakhs for one heart operation. In such a state of things, what becomes of the poor? Where can they bring so much money from? That is why I have had super speciality hospitals built and am having such costly operations done free. We take no money from the government. There are so many teachers here. I Myself pay their salaries too. You know: teachers' salaries are rising day by day. However much they rise, we pay the salaries exactly by the government's rules. No one should defy the government's rules. Ten years have passed since the super speciality hospital was built at Prasanthi Nilayam. Up to now twelve thousand heart operations have been done. Who saved so many lives? In January this year we opened another super speciality hospital in Bangalore. There, in just six months, 1500 operations have been done. Through whom is all this happening?

Then, coming to the water project (the drinking water scheme): in our Anantapur district people are still suffering in some places, with no water to drink. But by spending 300 crores I have had water supplied as far as possible. In Mahbubnagar, in the Telangana region, the people suffer greatly from the shortage of water. I told the chief engineer, Kondala Rao, to draw up a plan. “Swami! It may come to 60 crores,” he said; “It does not matter how many crores it takes; they must be given water that never runs out,” I told him. Sinking bore wells is of no use. So we brought water from the river Kṛṣṇā and gave it to them. 110 crores were spent. We are trying to supply water in Medak too. Many more works for the public good are going on.
