In plain words
Ānanda lies in oneness alone
To attain ‘divinity’, man must first achieve ‘unity’. Unity is itself the culture of man. Through unity, any task, however great, can be accomplished. Man today has won independence, but he has not won unity. Only where there is ‘unity’ will there be ‘purity’. From ‘purity’, ‘divinity’ is gained. It is through ‘divinity’ alone that Ānanda is attained. In diversity, Ānanda is not to be found. People say that health is the greatest wealth. That is true. But if you attain Ānanda, you can gain health in a moment. To think that Ānanda comes from wealth and from power is a mistake. Only when you recognise the oneness in the many does Ānanda come. When such Ānanda cannot be had, however many hospitals one has built, however much service one has done, all of it comes to nothing.
It is wrong to build hospitals for money
Some people think that I had this hospital built for the people of Karnataka. But I did not have it built for these people or for those; I had it built for the country. The doctors, nurses and technicians who work in the hospital must all be united. This is the ideal our hospital holds out. It is through this very unity that this hospital has risen to so high a standing. Our hospital is not chasing after money, or after name and fame. In ancient times in Bhārata, education, medical care and water were to be had free. Now too I have resolved to provide these three free. Our hospital is not a ‘business centre’. Today, wherever you look in the world, hospitals are turning into ‘business centres’. There is no sin worse than this. Medicine must be given free to those who are suffering from illness. Not the least money must be expected from them. To build hospitals for money is very wrong. Because I have set up this hospital here, many doctors have grown very envious of Me.
