Passage 7

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

The play and acting of this world: is it not a show of puppets! He is a king, this one a labourer: if anyone says no, it is that; if anyone says yes, it is this. Look at the ways of the world: is this not how it goes, to know it well? Look at the darkness in the world: is this not how it goes, to know it well...

In the world all is darkness. That is ignorance. This is only the working of tamoguṇa. Living in tamoguṇa, how can one recognise the sāttvika principle?

From time without beginning our Bhārata has won great name and fame. To the north of Bhārata the Himālaya mountains stand as its border. Snow is white, and cool. So the Himālayas are emblems of purity and of peace. The Gaṅgā, the Yamunā and the Sarasvatī, symbols of Bhakti, Jñāna and Vairāgya, flow in this sacred land of Bhārata. Not only that. This land gave the world the sacred books called the Rāmāyaṇa, the Bhārata and the Bhāgavata. This land of Bharata is the holy land where the Bhagavad Gītā, which teaches the all-pervading oneness, came forth. This is the sacred land where the Buddha was born, who taught “Ahiṃsā paramo dharmaḥ.” You must recognise how great, how divine the history of Bhārata is. From time without beginning Bhārata has been giving peace and security to every country by spreading the spiritual principle.

Embodiments of Prema! To be born in Bhārata is a very great good fortune. To live in Bhārata is a greater good fortune still. But the people of Bhārata themselves are forgetting the greatness of Bhārata.
