Passage 12

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

When you do nāmasmaraṇa with firm faith, you will win success in everything. Push fear aside and do nāmasmaraṇa fearlessly. Only then can you experience Ānanda. It does not matter if you have no musical instruments; it is enough to remember the Name with all your heart. Your mind itself is a vīṇā. See that no ‘false notes’, which are bad feelings, come into it. Lead your lives sounding the sacred Name of God on the vīṇā that is the mind. Only then will God’s grace come to you. I hope that in this new year you will lead lives that are an ideal and, blessed and full of merit, experience Ānanda. You need not search outside for Ānanda. Bring forth the Ānanda that is within you. Develop Bhakti and surrender. Since you were born people of Bhārata, uphold that name. All other countries will very soon follow Bhārata. Our Bhārata must lead all countries in the spiritual field. This is what I hope for.

Yesterday the Telugu people celebrated Ugādi. Today the new year of the Tamil people has begun. The people of Kerala have given it the name ‘Viṣu’. The names differ, but the inner meaning is one. Only when you recognise the inner meaning and act on it will you have celebrated these festivals in the right way.
