In plain words
Everyone is scrambling after wealth and after positions. What is this wealth? What are these positions? Can these protect us? How many rich people there are in this world! How many men in authority there are in this world! Are any of them able to attain happiness and Śānti? No, no. What gives man happiness, Śānti and Ānanda is the remembrance of God's Name alone. For those who neglect the Name of God, a downfall cannot be escaped.
For the five-syllabled mantra “Oṃ Namaśśivāya”, the syllable ‘ma’ is as its very life. Take it away and it becomes ‘naśśivāya’; that is, it becomes inauspicious. In the same way, for the eight-syllabled mantra “Oṃ Namo Nārāyaṇāya”, the syllable ‘ra’ is as its very life. Without the syllable ‘ra’, it too becomes inauspicious. The ‘ma’ that is the life of the five-syllabled mantra and the ‘ra’ that is the life of the eight-syllabled mantra: it is from the joining of these two that the Name of Rāma is formed.
Students! People! Devotees! Apart from the remembrance of God's Name there is nothing else that protects you. Wealth and positions come today and go tomorrow. Through politics anyone may come by the strength of power. How long does such power last? Shake it and it is gone. So do not scramble after power that comes through politics. It is those whose hearts are filled with the Name of God who are truly blessed, truly meritorious. Those who do not care for it may say they do not want it. They may argue with you that there is no Rāma at all. “Rāma may not be there for you. But for me He is. Who are you to say my Rāma is not there?”: so you must teach them sense. In whatever situation, never let go of the remembrance of God's Name. Practise ‘the thought of Hari always, at all times, everywhere’.
