In plain words
We are fostering this demoness, but not the sacred principle of Prema. If some little Prema has come to you, share that Prema in turn with many others. That alone is your true duty. Carry out that duty and attain the divine path. Students! In the studies you pursue, some subjects belong to this world alone. “To be happy here, the learning that wins gold; to be happy hereafter, the learning of Brahman.” We must foster that. Only then will lasting Ānanda come to us.
What man does not have and God has: Prema and Śānti alone
All this while Rasgotra has spoken of very great things. Look at his learning, the work he has done, the travels he has made, and no one like him is to be seen. No one has achieved such a thing in learning. If we look at service in office, no one else has reached so high a position. Having everything, why does he come here? He comes for My Prema. They come wanting what they do not have and I have. If this Prema were truly with you, why would all of you come here? You would not come at all. You come here only because that Prema is lacking in you. We must earn what we lack.
In Gujarat there lived a Patel. He was a great devotee. A great merchant. Travelling abroad, he earned a great deal of money in business. One day a foreign friend came to Gujarat: “Patel-gāru, I would like to come and see you,” he said. “By all means come,” said the Patel. By the time the friend arrived, the Patel was sitting in his pūjā room. However long it went on, he kept on with his pūjā. Sitting and sitting, the foreigner grew weary. After a long while the Patel came out. Then the friend: “What is this, sir! Patel, what are you doing pūjā for? You have all the money you need. So you are not doing pūjā for money. You have the happiness you need, so you are not asking for happiness either. Then what are you doing pūjā for so long?” he asked. The Patel burst out laughing.
